Jampa Ling Tibetan Buddhist Centre, Bawnboy, Co. Cavan Events Summer 2012

‘Jampa’ and ‘Ling’ are Tibetan words meaning ‘place of loving kindness’. The volunteers at Jampa Ling and Rinpoche’s students try to live up to this name by providing a place of  tranquility, calm and understanding. One’s life may not always fit together well, and peace and tranquility and a warm welcome can sometimes help.

EVENTS TAKE PLACE ALL OVER THE SUMMER MONTHS……please visit Jampa Ling Tibetan Buddhist Centre for the full listing of events

Wandering through the Weeds…Jampa Ling Tibetan Buddhist Centre, Bawnboy, Co Cavan.

Saturday 21st April 10am -4.30pm. This one day workshop is in two sections

In the morning Judith will lead the group around any available – and relatively unkempt – garden, lane, field, or park.    As plants are found, she discusses the culinary, domestic and medicinal uses to which each plant, (predominantly wild ones), is put. Worksheets are provided for notes. In the afternoon, Judith does the ‘cookery demonstration’, during which she shows the methods for making infusions, decoctions, compresses, poultices, tinctures, macerated oils and ointments. She gives clear information on terminology and recipes, (or formulas). There is a further sheet of notes that complements the afternoon’s work. Judith keeps the day informal and encourages relevant questions and comments about our herbal heritage.   Participants are asked to bring weathproof clothing, including boots and note-books and pens, especially for the afternoon.

Please bring vegetarian lunch to share …Workshop costs …€45 and must be booked in advance

2011 Annual Boat Trip To St. Mogue’s Island

2011 Annual Boat Trip To St. Mogue’s Island

A lovely day was had at the St. Mogue’s annual boat trip. All the usual day trippers were there as well as plenty of new faces. The trip in previous years had proved to be very popular however this year its popularity was brought to a new level. Queues reached right back to the fences, and each boat that set sail was full to the brim. It’s not usually this busy, believe me, I have been going for several years now. However this year was different, the new boat house that had just after been finished was opening and the official launch of a new book on St. Mogue and the Island was being launched. Several speeches were made and prayers were said by candidates of Catholic, Buddhist and the Church of Ireland communities. All this was followed by the official opening, where Johnny Mc Keirnan, special Olympic gold medalist cut the ribbon.

The boats then began ferrying people out to the Island where prayers were said at the graves of loved ones and St. Mogues clay, thought to have special protecting powers, was scraped out of the ruins of the church that St. Mogue had built all those years ago.                                                                                                                                                                                                                         As we crossed back over to the boat house we saw just how many people had turned out for the day. The queues had gotten even larger and cars were still coming down the lane.

All in All a good day was had by everyone
