Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark-What’s On Guide 2011-Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann

The Geopark is contributing to this magnificent celebration of Irish heritage through a number of specially organized events throughout the area.
- The Tullyhaw Trail, following the McGovern Clan
Saturday 13th August 2011 from 10:00 to 17:00 Location: Ballyhugh Arts and Cultural Centre
Admission: The cost of this event is €10 and includes a light lunch, refreshments and all entertainment. Places are strictly limited for this event so booking is essential.
Join local historian Oliver Brady as he follows in the footsteps of the McGovern Clan, visiting many of the archaeological and historic sites of the Geopark in West Cavan. The tour begins at Ballyhugh Arts and Cultural Centre at 10am and will take in sites including Drumlane Abbey, St Mogue’s Island, Maguire’s Chair, Tullydermot Falls and the Shannon Pot. The day will finish with some light refreshments and entertainment at Ballyhugh Arts and Cultural Centre.
- Family Friendly Day at Con Smith Park
14 August 2011 from 14:00 to 18:00 Location: Con Smith Park, Cavan
Admission: Free. Join Geopark staff for an arts and craft event as part of the Family Friendly Day in Con Smith Park, in Cavan town. Have a go at fossil rubbing, and learn how to make your own fossils whilst soaking up the atmosphere of the Fleadh. The event will take place from 2pm until 6pm, beside the Cavan Institute in Cavan Town.

Start at the Shopping Centre/Petrol station car park at the bridge in Ballyconnell and cross the road to a small amenity park. Walk along the canal for 200m passing a footbridge. Continue on the path along the river. Eventually you emerge into the open countryside with the river on your left and open field on your right.
Continue walking along the bank. After approximately 45 minutes you will approach Annagh Woods. Enter the woods following the path. After 300m keep right at the fork in the path. Follow the path until emerging from the forest. Follow the path for 200m. Take a right turn onto a small downhill path to your right. At the bottom of hill, upon meeting the canal, turn left for home.
