St. Mogue’s Island, or Inch as it is sometimes known, is a very old burial place where funerals have been held since the 12th century. Its link with St. Mogue goes back to his birth on the island in 555 A.D. and, because of this link it was the burial ground for a number of families from Templeport and Corlough.

The  book ‘St. Mogue’s Island’ not only gives  a brief history of the island and of St. Mogue’s life, but also information on the people around Port Lake, on those who have helped with the island’s upkeep, on some of the people and families buried there and on deaths, wakes and burial traditions of a time gone by. There are also a number of articles dealing with life in Templeport parish, including the opening of Templeport Hall, the founding of St. Aidan’s Football Club, a ploughing match held in Bawnboy and a list of the people who lived in the townlands around the lakeshore in 1911.

The book contains a variety of pictures old and new. Some of these show people associated with the island, those who have looked after it and those who made a significant contribution to life in Templeport.

The launch of the book “St Mouge’s Island”  ties in with Bawnboy Festival which  attracts crowds to the village. The book will be widely on sale from the August Bank holiday weekend in Bawnboy, Ballyconnell, Ballinamore and surrounding areas and also in the Crannóg Bookshop, Cavan, price 12 Euro.
